About the project
Developed in conjunction with the same owners of Shoreditch, Fugazi is a contemporary casual restaurant and bar, located just opposite Shoreditch in Kennedy Town, offering fusion Izakaya concept dishes and wide selection of wines and beers. “Fugazi” actually means fake in Italian.
There is a little hint of Japanese style throughout the shop via the furniture and graffiti, however the offering of a variety of delicious skewers renders the restaurant playfully as “a fake Japanese bar”.
An oversized sliding metal and glass panel opens the bar to the busy western district street, and custom graffiti art on the concrete walls, depicting a sassy Japanese chick, meets the guests on entry.
The bar is a concrete extension of the floor and walls. Raw-bars support the metal shelves to the bar gantry, with a metal and safety glass shelving overhanging the bar.
Counterweights on the front sliding door and folding table add a sense of speakeasy. A high top table nestled in an alcove at the back is flanked by 4 swings.
It’s a small, cozy, hole in the wall bar, tucked discretely into the busy Catchick St, and adding a cool vibe to this happening district.
